Since 2006, the Regional Coordinating Committee (RCC) of the All Health Hazards Regions of Northern and Southern Carroll County met consistently to create Public Health Emergency Preparedness Plans to address pandemics and bio terrorism events. The RCC consisted of representation from emergency management directors from towns within the county. Participation also included members from local hospitals, schools, health care centers as well as Fire & EMS departments, to ensure that public health emergencies would be handled in an organized and safe manner, minimizing damage to lives, property and the economy.
Today the RCC is convened under the auspices of the Carroll County Coalition for Public Health, which was established in July 2009, joining the Northern and Southern Carroll County Public Health Emergency Plans and regions into one.
Through community partnerships with municipal governments, public safety, education, health care services, community based organizations such as transportation, social services, civic organizations as well as business, media and faith based communities, we aim to prevent disease, promote good health and protect the community. Mobilization of community partnerships, assessment of the health status of the community, and pooling of resources, create an environment where we are better positioned to mount a timely public health response to an emergency situation.
Currently our focus is to draft a regional public health emergency preparedness plan and communicate this plan to the municipalities of the region. We are proud and delighted to have many great partners on board to assist us in coordination and planning. Our long term goal is to build the public health infrastructure in Carroll County to improve health, prevent disease, and reduce healthcare costs for all.
